He was predeceased by: his parents, John Smith and Rita Smith. He is survived by: his significant other Carol; and his children, Susan Smith, Shawn Smith II (Beverly), Dana Wiley (Brian), Kelly Hardy (Jon) and Tysun McKay (Nevin).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, an organization of St. Paul the Apostle Parish.
