He was predeceased by: his parents, Lizzie Bell and Judge W. W. Matthews; and his brother Billy Matthews. He is survived by: his children-in-law, Amy Matthews and C. Al Buis; his siblings, Jerry and Max; his grandchildren, Natalie Hessing, Olivia Buis, Lauren Burgess, Allison Joertner, Kaitlyn Luzarraga and Mallory Matthews; and his great grandchild Mimi Hessing.
