He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Herbert and Emma Mertink Bendix (Schulz); his son Stuart Todd Mertink; his stepfather William H. Benedix; his brother Paul W. Mertink; and his stepbrother Burnell Benedix.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth S. Mertink; and his son Clifford D. Mertink. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, December 1st 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors (2495 Corsicana Hwy, Hillsboro, TX 76645). A funeral service was held on Monday, December 2nd 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Christ Lutheran Church (915 Corsicana Hwy, Hillsboro, TX 76645). A burial was held on Monday, December 2nd 2024 from 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM at 3838 TX-22, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
