She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Rudolf Schmidt and Ella Runge Schmidt; her husband Wilbert "Sonny" Gaeke; her daughter Karen Gaeke; her stepbrother Stepsol Schmidt; her sister Ingrid Levy; her children, Johnny Gaeke (Lana) and Becky Reeves (Cliff); her grandson Robert Houston LaFerney (Samantha) of John; her great grandchildren, Evelyn LaFerney and Callie Grace LaFerney; and her siblings, Helga Hilliard and Jürgen Schmidt (Ann). She was also cherished by numerous nephews, one niece.
