He was predeceased by: his wife Aaltje Burghgraef; and his parents, Gerardus and Catharina. He is survived by: his children, Judith Ann Black (Brad) and Mark Donald Richter (Angela); his grandchildren, Cannon Black of Colton Black, D. J., Clint, Marie and Jasmine; and his siblings, Gerard Richter (Leila) and Saskia Choinsky (Arthur). He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
