She was predeceased by: her parents, Tomas Cortez and Irene Cortez (Valdez); and her siblings, Tomas Jr. "Tommy" Cortez, Eloy Cortez, Roel Armando Cortez and Odelia Cortez Arellano.
She is survived by: her daughter Sonya Cardenas of Brownsville, Texas; her grandson Ruben Cardenas; her great grandchild Liberty; her sisters, Irma Sanchez (Benito) of Los Fresnos, Teresa Woods of Houston, Norma Peralez and Velma Azua of Los Fresnos, Texas; her pet Shadow; and her friend Lupita Sanchez of Hereford, Texas.. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 28th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home (105 Greenwood St, Hereford, TX 79045). A rosary was held on Tuesday, January 28th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Mendez & Mullins Family Funeral Home (105 Greenwood St, Hereford, TX 79045). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, January 28th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the San Jose Catholic Church (735 Brevard St, Hereford, TX 79045).
