He was predeceased by: his father Wilton Brightwell; his brother Don Brightwell; his parents-in-law, Jack and Judy Watkins; and his mother Mary Brightwell of Henderson.

He is survived by: his significant other Julianna Watkins Brightwell of Henderson; his children, Curtis Brightwell (Mande) of Longview, Jason Brightwell (Karen) of Longview, Christi Ortiz (Victor) of Pearland and Brandon Welch (Courtney) of Shiner; and his brother Alton Brightwell (Theresa) of Leander. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
