He was predeceased by: his parents, LaCelle Stites and Florence Stites (Albrecht); his siblings, LaCelle Stites Jr. and Phyllis Ciccone; his daughter Judy Carmichael; and his grandson Steven Cook (Marion).

He is survived by: his spouse Marion (Newberry); his brother Charles Benjamin Stites (Anne); his children, Patricia Cook of Pasadena and Donald Quarles (Carol) of Hempstead; his grandchildren, Lisa Micheletti (Charlie) of League City, Robert Quarles (Stacie) of Richmond, Lance Cook (Julie) of Longview, Angela Quarles of Bastrop, Jeffrey Carmichael of Chesapeake Virginia and Donald Quarles Jr. (Julia) of Alexandria Virginia; and his pets, Abby, Blondie and Sprinkles. He is also survived by Seventeen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
