She was predeceased by: her parents, Alvin Barnes and Anitha Barnes; her husband Leonard Pierce Simmons Jr. (L. P.); and her siblings, Verda Rousseau and Alvin Barnes.
She is survived by: her children, Leonard (Mary Beth), Sandra Fulkes (Chuck), Sam Simmons (Susan) and Martha McLemore (Tom); her grandchildren, Courtney Nash (Trey), Marte Lange (Paul), Natalie Leal (Ricky), Audrey Hooks (Matt), Robert Brooks (Heather), Samuel Simmons, Clay McLemore (Erika), Zachary McLemore (Kelly), James Simmons and Joshua McLemore (Athenea); and her sister Sandra Milum. She is also survived by 18 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dodie's memory can be made to the Iwo Jima Memorial Museum at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen or First Methodist Church Harlingen.
