He was predeceased by: his parents, Antonio Benavides and Maria Benavides; his wife Beatris; his son Jose Pena, Jr.; his grandparents, Clemente, Margarita Mendiola, Dionicio and Concepcion Benavides; and his siblings, Pompeyo Benavides and Margarita Benavides.
He is survived by: his children, Maria Ybarra (Lou), Juanita Feliciano (Carlos), Ester Rodriguez (Ramon), Noemi Garza (Jose Luis), Rachel Dobson, Abraham Pena (Mari), Benjamin Pena (Mary Alice) and Beatrice Benavides (Rudy); and his siblings, Guadalupe Cantu, Jesus Benavides, Clemente Benavides, Juanita Benavides, Maria Herlinda Benavides and Ana Luisa Diaz. He is also survived by 40 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
