He was predeceased by: his father Robert W. McDonald; and his father-in-law Monty Joe Ballard. He is survived by: his mother Linda Ratjen McDonald; his wife Kathy Ballard; his son Matthew McDonald (Jasmine Smith); his brother David McDonald (Cindy) of McLean, TX; his niece Victoria Newton (Kolton Brock) of Canyon, TX; his sister-in-law Kay Ballard Smith (Larry) of Lubbock; and his mother-in-law Maxine Ballard of Lubbock.
