He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Mayes and Malinda Mayes; his son Lavine Mayes, Jr.; and his siblings, Glover Lee Mayes, Herman Mayes Sr., J. H. Mayes, Effie Lewis, Daisy Speights, Betty Thompson, Artemesia Richardson and Ella Williams.
He is survived by: his wife Caroline Richardson; his children, Cordella "Momma" Mayes of Baytown Texas and Michael "Poppa" Mayes of Hankamer; his grandson Shannon "Man" Mayes of Hankamer; and his siblings, Linda Whittington, Mary Roy (Allen) of Hankamer, Lorna Haskins of Killeen and Henry Mayes (Alma Jane) of Hankamer. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
