She was predeceased by: her parents, Leonard Spies and Maurine Heinsohn Spies (George); her sister Delores Muhlstein; and her brother-in-law William. She is survived by: her daughters, Janis Muehr (L. A.) of Hallettsville, LaVerne Eschberger (LaNoal) of Hallettsville, Ruth Muehr (Donald) of Hallettsville and Debra Pieniazek (Jack) of Conroe. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Irene generously donated to several charities and was notable for donating hundreds of dozens of eggs to the local food pantry.
