He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Sommers and Mary Halsema Sommers; his former wife Gladys Anita Stone; his wife Nita; his son Glen Sommers; and his siblings, Jack, Bob, Carl, Raymond, Harold, Martha, Elizabeth, Sophie, Louise and Ruth.

He is survived by: his daughter Gayla Sommers of Grand Prairie; his daughter-in-law Mindy Sommers of Poultney, Vermont; his grandchildren, Chrystal Gomez of Midland, Sarah Gomez (Michael) of Keller, Elizabeth Cause (Andrew) of The Colony and Tim Sommers of Keller; his great grandchildren, Chloe Escamilla and Reagan Villalba; and his brother Richard Sommers (Shirley). He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made in Russ' name to the "Chairmen Fund" of Crosspoint Church of Christ, 3020 Bardin Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052.
