He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Bates (Coffey); and his brother Kenny Bates. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen Bates of Graham; his son Michael Bates (Ryan Flint) of Dallas; his siblings, Darla Wilcox of Angleton, Jimmy Bates (Linda) of Mineral Wells and Kathy Pippins of Burleson; his stepdaughter Teresa Donaghey (Jack) of Ruidoso, NM.; and his friend Lindsey Sate Jail.
