He was predeceased by: his parents, Jose Herrera and Martina Herrera; his sons, Joe Herrera and John Herrera, Jr.; his grandson Joe Herrera, Jr.; and his sisters, Theodora Navarro and Bertha Herrera.
He is survived by: his wife Josephine Herrera of Gonzales; and his children, Rudy Herrera (Maria) of Gonzales, Roland Herrera (Andrea) of Austin, Dora Rosales (Miguel) of Austin, Janie Ortiz (Isaac) of Austin and Josie Aguilar (Victor) of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
