He was predeceased by: his parents, Boyce Oakes and Maurine Davis Oakes; his son David Wayne Oakes; and his stepgranddaughter Julie Polasek. He is survived by: his wife Julia Oakes; his son Michael; his daughter-in-law Irene Oakes of Gonzales; his son Scott; his daughter-in-law Pam Oakes of Salado; his daughter Susan; his son-in-law Steven Skrabanek of College Station; his son Kevin; his daughter-in-law Carol Oakes of Gonzales; his grandchildren, Matthew Wayne Oakes, Stacey Oakes Dawson (Kevin), Samuel Eugene Skrabanek, Kristen Paige Oakes, Cody Andrew Oakes, Ryan Thomas Oakes, Brady William Oakes and Mallory Maurine Skrabanek; and his great grandchildren, Bella Dawson, Kadie Dawson and Alice Oakes.

Seydler-Hill Funeral Home will continue to require all attendants to take protective measures regarding social distancing, usage of hand sanitizers and wearing personal protective masks for the visitation, chapel service and the graveside burial rite. Those remotely symptomatic of COVID-19 are politely asked not to attend.
