“I just found out today that Gene had passed away last year. I am sorry to be so late with my message, but want to share my friendship with Gene. I met Gene when he was 13, in the hospital where he was recovering from his accident. I was a patient there at that time .. Gene would bring magazines to me, or a coke and visit awhile. He was an amazing person. We corresponded with him and Betty for many years after that. My sincere sympathy to the family-- Mary (Lortz) McLerran”
