It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joe Duane Quarles of Gilmer, Texas, who passed away on December 4, 2024, at the age of 75, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his wife Elaine Quarles; and his son Stephen Michael Quarles. He is survived by: his daughter Kendra Quarles Franklin; his grandchildren, Rebecca Garza, Carlie Franklin, Jena Skinner, Brandon Forrester, Jeal and Blue Garcia; and his great grandchildren, Deja, Bubba, Arizbeth, Domenik, Dahlia, Jeannie, Raylan, Mavi and Kamilla.

Visitation was held on Friday, December 13th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the McWhorter Funeral Home (1074 TX-300, Gilmer, TX 75645). A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 14th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the same location.

“I'm truly saddened to hear of Joe's passing. Joe is a shipmate of mine from over 45 years ago on the US Coast Guard Cutter Basswood based in Guam, Micronesia. I remember Joe as a unique personality and was very easy to like. We had many long conversations on the fantail as we passed some of the most beautiful islands, seas, and vast night skies in God's creation. Our ship and our crew were not the most glamorous but we were a family.. My heartfelt sympathy to those he leaves behind. Tim Dailey”
