He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Christopher Stanton and Anna Lela Stanton (Pitts); his wife Jean Stanton; his sons, James D. Stanton, II and Thomas O. Stanton; his granddaughter Sarah Stanton; and his siblings, Don T. Stanton, Maurice Stanton, Tommie Jean Stanton, Marie Coleman and Barbara Gozberk.
He is survived by: his stepson Dale White (Anita) of Sabinal; his sisters, Sue Bobbitt of Pineland and Rita Elliott (Welden) of Hemphill; his daughters-in-law, Martha and Pam Stanton; his grandchildren, James D. Stanton, III, Stephanie Jennings (Joseph), Shelby Spikes (Tanner), Spencer Stanton, Joshua Stanton, Caleb Stanton and Serra Stanton; his stepgrandsons, Brandon White, Collin White, Aaron White and Darren White; and his great grandchildren, Lorraine "Rainy" Hollister, Mildred "Millie" Jennings, Oren Jennings, Alice Stanton and Stetson Spikes.
