Peggy Pieratt Borchers Obituary
Peggy Pieratt Borchers, born August 30, 1941 in La Grange, Texas, went home to the Lord and her beloved husband Tom Borchers on March 30, 2022. Peggy was the only daughter of Bill and Laura Lee Wilson Pieratt of Giddings, Texas.
Peggy was raised in Giddings, the only daughter in a four-child family. Theirs was an active and loving household, often marked by Peggy having to ride herd on her two younger brothers Leslie and John. While at Giddings High School she excelled academically as well as placing second in the state in UIL typing and playing the flute in the band.
She first went to college at Texas Tech where she was a member of the marching band, but it felt too far from home. So she transferred to Sam Houston State where she worked toward her goal of a BA in English so that she could be a teacher. Her first teaching job took her to Midland, where she taught two years and then accepted a job in Lake Jackson. It was in Lake Jackson that she met Tommy, who was a chemical engineer at Dow. They married February 22, 1969 and together they made Lake Jackson their home. They shared a love of travel and of family. Peggy went back to college and got her Masters in Library Science, and began her career as a librarian in the Brazosport schools. She taught in the Brazosport ISD from 1996 to 1999, first as an English teacher, then as the librarian for Brazoswood High School. Peggy loved her hometown of Giddings and treasured her many friends in the class of 1959, helping to organize regular reunions. She followed in the footsteps of her mother, Laura Lee Pieratt, by serving as President of the Lee County Historical Society.
Peggy and Tommy loved the Pieratt family ranch where they discovered a love for raising miniature white donkeys. Peggy made a point of entertaining her nieces and nephews in the summers either at the ranch or in Lake Jackson. One of her nephews said that when he and his brother were at the ranch, Peggy was their Ranch Mother. It was at the ranch that Peggy created a miniature cemetery for the dogs in their lives, Jack Borchers and Amelia Borchers. Peggy and Tommy were the cool aunt and uncle with their matching Harleys (which she hid from her parents), a red Corvette, and pilots' licenses. Aunt Peggy was truly adored by her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Borchers, the true love of her life, as well as her parents, Bill and Laura Lee Pieratt, and by her older brother Harold.
Peggy leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Leslie Pieratt (Kandie) and John Pieratt (Ann); her sister-in-law, Doris Pieratt; Tommy's sister, Mary Ann Nedbalek and her husband Bobby; Tommy's brother Ronnie, and her many Pieratt nieces and nephews including David, Bill, Amy, Guy, Melissa, Will, J, Rob, Jordan, Michael, and Karina. Her Borchers nephews were also close to Peggy and Tommy.
The family wishes to express our deepest appreciation and thanks for Elmcroft Assisted Living and their outstanding staff, and especially for Peggy's dear and loyal friends Ruthanne and Archie Pratt, and for Martha Wallace.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Giddings City Cemetery in Giddings, Texas where she will be laid to rest next to Tommy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the high school library of your choice.
Finally, Peggy would want you to know what she expressed in her final letter to her family: thinking of Tommy she quoted Poe and she wrote that she loved and was loved in her kingdom by the sea.
