He was predeceased by: his son Robert Brookfield Burns III; his brother Robert Brookfield Burns II; and his parents, Robert Brookfield Burns and Mary Alice Minton Burns. He is survived by: his wife Cathy Lee Burns; his sons, Joel Burns, James Burns (Natalie) and Troy Wittenbach (Amy); his grandchildren, Tracy Burns and Byron Burns; his great grandchild Mia Oliver; his niece Kimberly Dismukes (James); and his nephews, Charles "Chuck" Knipstein (Tami) and Michael Knipstein (Heather).
