She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Monroe Henry Emil and Clara Laura Dippel Schuhmann; her son Bobby; her daughter-in-law Kathy; and also Jimmy. She was also cherished by caregiver for her siblings until her father.

The staff at Garrison was particularly supportive during the final few months of her life, when Dorothy faced the loss of a beloved granddaughter, Kimberly, in September to COVID, and her own bout with the debilitating virus in December.
