He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Robert and Nellie Priest Shelton; his wife Margaret Helen Shelton; his children, Mariss Hartigan (John "Red" Hartigan) and Gary Helmke (Pat Helmke); his grandson Gary "Billy" William Helmke, Jr.; his great grandchild Jonathon Helmke; and his siblings, Nola Huffman, Bonnie May Shelton, Cay Carroll Shelton (Curly) and Lowell Shelton.
He is survived by: his son-in-law John Hartigan (Red); his grandchildren, Margaret Angela Hartigan of Virginia, John Hartigan (Lisa Angela) of Lewisville, Texas, Marcus Shane Helmke of Winnsboro, Texas, Joseph Koglin (Bich) of Wiley, TX and Jonathon Koglin of Denton, TX; his caregiver Lori Siem of Garland, Texas; and also, Kendra D. Hartigan of Denton, Texas and Anna Koglin of Wiley, TX. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service was held on Monday, January 20th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Greens Chapel Cemetery.
