She was predeceased by: her parents, Felipe Mendoza and Soledad Mendoza; her husband J. A. Vargas, Sr.; and her siblings, Tanna Rodriguez, Connie Garza, Dr. Samuel Mendoza, Jake Mendoza, Alfonso Mendoza and Dr. Roger Mendoza.
She is survived by: her sons, J. A. Vargas, Jr. and Francisco Vargas (Donna); her sister-in-law Ellen Mendoza; her niece Lisa Trevino; and her caregivers, Jennifer Moran, Maria Elena Fuentes, Amparo Martinez, Maria Castillo, Leslie Castillo, Lorraine Zermeno, Kathy Garza, Tea Sosa, Jennifer Harris, Lisa Trevino and Donna Vargas. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews.
