Catheryn Andrea Schattel Obituary

Catheryn Andrea Schattel, 84, of Galveston, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Cascades at Galveston. She was born January 14, 1939, and married William J. Schattel, Jr. Together, they had four boys. Catheryn served Galveston for many years in several capacities. She was an art instructor at Ball High School for 10 years, and she loved teaching. She then worked at the Galveston Police Department for 10 years, and then followed with 10 years of service at the Galveston Tax Office. Catheryn served as a member of the executive board of WCID #19 for 15 years. She was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #20 and served in the women's auxiliary. Catheryn was dedicated to her community.

Catheryn is preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her sons, William J. Schattel, III, and wife, Kathy; Richard W. Schattel, Sr. and Patsy; Ronald D. Schattel and Norma; and Daniel E. Schattel; grandchildren: William J. Schattel, IV; Richard W. Schattel, Jr. and wife, Susan; George E. Schattel, Sr. and wife, Jamie; Katheryn Schattel; Crystal Schattel; William Justin Schattel; Paylan Schattel; Carter Schattel; Anna Schattel; Brittan Westberry; Dalton Kirtpatric; George E. Schattel, Jr.; Allissa Schattel; Payton Schattel; Paisley Schattel; Raylan Schattel; Terrell Schattel; Chance Compton; Audum Schattel Brown; Kimmie Hensley; Ashley Broderick Schattel; Ayleigh Chapman; Camden Schattel; and Mason Tucker.

Catheryn's family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Monday, October 9, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will begin at 6:00 pm.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 10, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with burial following the service at Old City Cemetery in Galveston.

Pallbearers will be Richard W. Schattel, Jr., George E. Schattel, Sr., Richard Justin Schattel, George E. Schattel, Jr., Daniel E. Schattel, and Ronald D. Schattel.
