He was predeceased by: his parents, John V. Hermes and Virginia Hermes; and his brother-in-law Daryl Rindt. He is survived by: his children, Diane "Max" (David Reyes) and Matthew; and his siblings, Victoria Rindt, Lynda Heimbach (Jeffrey), Janet Day (Steve Traylor), Michael Hermes and Douglas Hermes.

He always loved word games; he was never without a crossword puzzle (he brought the New York Times crossword to a rock concert once!), and got very into Wordle after Covid.
