He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest W. Hackbirth and Bessie Mae Hackbirth (Snyder); and his siblings, Donna Ellis, David and Allen Hackbirth.

He is survived by: his wife Ida; his children, Kim Hackbirth, Kris Hackbirth and Kay Perry; and his siblings, Robert Hackbirth and Ruth Skeel. He is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
