She was predeceased by: her husband H. T. Dement (Tuffy); her parents, Rufus Floyd Melton and Annie Myrtle Melton (Nunn); and her siblings, Ronald Floyd Melton and Judy Lynn Martin (Melton).
She is survived by: her daughters, Carol McDowell (Terry) of Rio Rancho and Sheryl Mercer (Alvin) of Bay City; her siblings, Doyle Melton (Patty) of Moore, OK and Gail Blouch (Jim) of Catoosa, OK; her brother-in-law Larry Martin (Jeannie) of Friona; her grandsons, Heath McDowell (Courtney) of Rio Rancho, Eric McDowell (Marlayna) of Rio Rancho, Chance Layton (Kailey) of Brooklyn and Bradly Bartels of Jacksonville; and her great grandchildren, Jakobey, Haylee and Amelia McDowell of Rio Rancho. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Viewing was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of Hansard Family Funeral Home (815 S Main St, Friona, TX 79035). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Friona Cemetery. A burial will be held on Saturday, February 22nd 2025 at 11:30 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the West Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz, org or a favorite charity.
