Ricardo Cruz Gonzalez Obituary
A compassionate man with a contagious smile, Ricardo "Ricky" Cruz Gonzalez, age 51, passed away February 22, 2023.
Ricky was born on July 25, 1971, in Alice, Texas to his father Martin "Chico" Gonzalez and his mother Yolanda Cruz Carrera. Growing up in Freer with his siblings Gloria, Martin Jr., Orlando, Rolando, and Carolina, he loved being with friends and family. He was especially close with his grandfather "Rabbit". Even as a child he was always there to help those in need. After graduating high school, he attended Del Mar College.
Ricky's desire to help others continued with his career. He was a dispatcher for the Duval County Sheriff's Department. He was a volunteer with the Freer Fire Department and EMS, and was involved with many other organizations, such as Crime Stoppers. In his free time, he enjoyed political events, barbeques, and other gatherings. He loved music, especially Tejano and country, and his favorite song was "One Day at a Time.". He liked old cowboy movies, but his favorite was The Godfather. He collected coins and enjoyed taking his dog Jack running and on car rides. He enjoyed a meal of arroz con pollo and fideo, along with a cold Coke.
A Christian, Ricky was a caring and compassionate friend. He was a good listener and always gave great advice. He loved hanging out with his friends Romeo Moreno, Martha, Gabriel, Paul, Anna, Oscar, and many others. He was especially close with his sister Gloria and his mother. He had a contagious smile and a wonderful sense of humor.
Ricky leaves behind his mother Yolanda Cruz Carrera; his siblings Gloria Villarreal, Martin Gonzalez, Jr., Orlando Gonzalez, Rolando Gonzalez, and Carolina Gonzalez; and his beloved pets Chico, Jack, and Totone. He is reunited with his father Martin "Chico" Gonzalez and many family members and friends.
