He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruby Hayes Ward and Sim Nell Ward; his brothers, Robert Ward and Truman Ward; his mother-in-law Nelmer Whisenant; his son-in-law Chick Young; and his sister-in-law Linda Whisenant.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Ward of Virginia; his children, Gary Ward (Lisa) of Silsbee and Paula Vaughn (Kirk) of Coldspring; his grandchildren, Aaron Ward, Beth Slaydon (Tyler) of Silsbee, Zane Young of Coldspring and Trevor Vaughn of Coldspring; and his great grandchild Blake Slaydon.
