He was predeceased by: his parents, Royal Watson and Angelyn Watson; his wife Lucress Watson; and his daughter Teresa Watson Martin. He is survived by: his daughters, Cindy Bishop (David) of Franklin, Missy Nolan (Leslie) of Franklin and Johnna Thompson (Debbie Watson) of Calvert; his grandchildren, Teresa, Travis Colvin of Robbinsville, Kathy, Marcin Debski of Aspen, Richard, Ashleigh Bishop of Palestine, Ross Bishop of Palestine, Bud Nolan, Kevin McCune of Thornton, Haylie, Kyle Cortines of Franklin, Cole Thompson and Chase Thompson of Calvert, Texas.; his great grandchildren, Danielle, Cynthia, Leeann, Colt, Compton, Cooper, Alek, Nadia, Whitley, Leighton, Jake, Jaxon, Olivia, Raiden, Kopeland, Bowen and Pate; and his great great grandchild Jona.

In the wake of Lucress' passing in 2002, he decided to fulfill their dream of forming the Lucress Watson and Dick Watson Children's Foundation, a non-profit organization that supplies essential medicines for children in developing countries.
