He was predeceased by: his parents, Naomi House and Joseph P. Coulter Sr. (Edward); his wife Ruth Cox; his siblings, Norma Coulter and Thomas Coulter; and his children, Cheryl, Nikki and Michael.
He is survived by: his aunt Johnie; his sisters, Josie Coulter, Vickie Coulter Davis, Beverly Coulter and Betty Cox; his stepsister Doris Grant; his brothers, Kenneth Coulter, JP Coulter Jr. and Willie Cox; and his sons, Thomas Fry and Edward Jr.. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Among his affiliations were the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Toastmasters, the Shriners, and Freemasonry, where he made significant contributions to his community.
