He was predeceased by: his parents, E. C. "Red" Shelley and Ruth Shelley; and his son Augustus "Gus" Atherton. He is survived by: his wife Donna; his children, Brooke Reed (Robert Reed), Amy Tutt (Robert Tutt), Frank Atherton (Sarah Atherton) and Shane Atherton; and his siblings, Barbara Owen and Bill Shelley (Pam Shelley). He is also survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and many friends.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday, December 14th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Oak Tree Baptist Church of Pooleville.
