He was predeceased by: his parents, Christopher Columbus Riter and Nannie Riter; his siblings, James Taylor and Nancy Arber; his children, Michael McDonald and Nita Jo Hopkins; and his daughter-in-law Juli McDonald.

He is survived by: his wife Carry Riter; his children, Nan Riter (Pete Jones), Sam McDonald and Kaylene Salas; his grandchildren, O'Brien McDonald (Carrie), Deidra Ruchaber (Mitch), Sean McDonald (Shannon), Lesley Pennington (Ryan), Walter Coffelt (Jamie), Leonard Coffelt, Michael Hopkins (Kristi), Amy Hopkins and Christina Davis (Chuck); and his great grandchildren, Ayden, Paige, Cooper, Lilly, Xander, Boyd, Samantha, Riley, Hunter C., Austin, Jayden, Cody, Hunter H., Trinity, Isaiah, Katy, Ethan, Mason and Coy. He is also survived by extended family and countless friends.
