He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn; his children, Richard Dale and Deborah Lynn; his parents, Frank Matthews and Matta Matthews; his siblings, Inez Frank (Charlie), Odessa (Jesse), Melvin and Milton; and his siblings-in-law, Dee (Russell), Eugene and Bobby.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Heath, Bobbi Matthews, Misty, Ron Coleman, Wesley, Brenda Lynch, Lily, Patrick Spears and Bonita Merryfield; his great grandchildren, Richard Scott, Ciera Matthews, Samantha Matthews, Justin, Jyscyiaah Matthews, Quinn Coleman, Caden, Noah, Max Cunningham, Stormy, Loren Lynch, Phillup and David Merryfield; his great great grandchildren, Weston, Adilynn, Gabriel, Emberly Jo, Jocelyn, Logan Matthews, Madison, JaeLani and Mylo Alejandro Matthews; and his sister-in-law Cinda Barden (Calvin).
