He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon Nichols and Opal Nichols; and his brother Jerry. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Lynette Butler; his daughter Danee'; his son-in-law Eric Owens; his son Scott Nichols; his daughter-in-law Kim Denney; his grandchildren, Katie (Michael Squires), Grayson (Lexi Owens), Nicole Nichols and Shelby Nichols; and his great grandchildren, Collin Boutwell, Rosalie, DeLaney Owens, Ryan Squires and Tucker Nichols. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
