He is survived by: his wife Janie Smith; his children, Dale Smith of Abilene and Sara Montes (Michael) of Abilene; his siblings, Allen Smith (Shirley) of Rockingham, Jimmy Smith (Phyllis) of Garland, Rosalie Melton of Rocky Mount, Shirley Pollard of Randleman and Judy Scott of Wenatchee, Washington; his grandchildren, Ashton Smith, Kaleb Devlin, Weston Montes, Caleb Montes and River Montes; and his siblings-in-law, Carol Andersen of Abilene, Faye Smith of Fayetteville, Carol Smith of Rocky Mount and Tony Quinn of Menlo Park. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
