He was predeceased by: his parents, James Cleve Iler Jr. and Jean Helfrich Iler; his brother Robert Carleton Iler; and his sister-in-law Beth Weatherall Faulkner. He is survived by: his brother Cleve University; his wife Ann Weatherall Iler of Houston; his grandchildren, Allison Marie Iler Nolen (Craig Randall Nolen), San Antonio, Brittany Ann Iler of Longview, James Thomason Iler of Houston, Carol Ann Iler of Houston, Lindsey Helms Iler of Houston, John Norman Iler II of Houston, William Marshall Iler of Houston and Morgan Elizabeth Iler of Houston; his sibling James Cleve Iler III; his wife Lou Ann; his brother-in-law Robert Frank Faulkner of Tyler; and also, Baylor University and Janet Iler Bignon. He is also survived by his nieces and their husbands: Karen and Donald Key, and Elizabeth and Richard Kirwan, both of Dallas along with several great nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews.
