He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor Zapata and Juanita Zapata; and his siblings, Benjamin Zapata, Enriqueta Saenz and Genoveva Alday.

He is survived by: his children, Bob Zapata, Pat Mears, Carol Sutton, Mike Zapata and Jeanette Stringer; his grandchildren, Ryan Navarro, Christina Perez, Michael Sutton, Matthew Zapata, Andrew Zapata, Nikolaus Stringer and Jordan Cardwell-Roach; and his great grandchildren, Jacob and Jason Perez.
