He was predeceased by: his parents, Santana and Nieves; his siblings, Catarina and Leonard; his son-in-law Ray Rivera; and his brother Margil Mandonado.
He is survived by: his wife Irma Martinez Maldonado; his children, Maria Estella Gutierrez (Javier), Diana Palacios, Joe Maldonado (Sallie) and Rosalinda Maldonado (Ray Rivera); and his siblings, Ernestina Garcia, Emma Ruiz, Diamantina Patlan, Rosa Ybarra, Oralia Karam, Melba Pineda and Santana Maldonado Jr.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to La Lomita Park in McAllen.
