He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Thomas Edward Backus and Thelma Irene Holder Backus; his wife Gloria Hearon Backus; his daughter Jennifer Ann Shahan (Patrick Shahan); his granddaughter Olivia; his daughter Melissa Gail Backus France (Alex France); his granddaughter Eleanor France; his siblings, Barbara Ann McGuire, David Lowell Backus (Phyllis), Donna Elaine Smith (Danny), Michael Allen Backus (Deborah) and Kenneth Wayne Backus (Melanie); and his pet Snow.
