He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Alexander and Ella T. Williams (Ruth Mae Alexander); his son Roy Gene Nelson; and his siblings, Ardelia Guat, Clarine Williams Herice Williams (Wilbert Jean Bell) and John Williams Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Ruthie Nelson; and his siblings, Johnny Haggerty (Gloria), Lynda Williams and Pearl Alexander. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
