He was predeceased by: his wife Verna Jean Sims; his parents, John Harvey and Flossie Sims; and his sister Mary Jo Barrett. He is survived by: his son Mike Sims (Suzanne); his brother John Sims (Dorinda); his child Additionally; his grandchildren, Jessica Baima (Chris) and Keith Sims; and his great grandchild Brenna Baima.
He was recognized by the City of Cedar Hill for his contributions to the city as well as being named Texas Fire Fighter of the year in 1987.
