He was predeceased by: his parents, Jewell Vernon Starling and Geneva Barden-Starling. He is survived by: his wife Betty Ross Jones Starling; his daughter Angela Faye Starling; and his siblings, Derrel Starling, Harvey Starling, Ella Traylor and Elta Knight. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
