He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Estes and Lola Estes (Simpson); his wife LaRece Lawrence; his stepmother Thena Walker Estes; his stepsister Clydeen Peterson Hall; and his sister Freda Estes Mitchell.

He is survived by: his siblings, Shirley Estes Durant, Robert "Bob" Estes (Sally) and James; his children, Margie Estes Bellomy of Diana, Richard Estes II (Teresa) of Diana and Robert Estes of Diana; and his granddaughter Tammy Estes Van Horn (Monty) of Gatesville, Texas.. He is also survived by Thirteen grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
