He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Wally Phillips and Carlota Phillips; his wife Julie Phillips; his children, Walter Phillips and Kimberly Phillips Zimmerman; his children-in-law, Jenny Dillon Phillips and Keenan Zimmerman; his daughters, Kelli McLaren and Julie Browning; his grandchildren, Kai and Sam; his children, Bryan McLaren and Jordan McLaren Wright (Dawson Wright); and his grandchildren, Nolan Zimmerman and Nora Zimmerman. He was also cherished by relatives and friends who were part of Scott's extended family.
He accomplished his challenge virtually—with cancer and two hip implants—by hiking in Denton due to the Covid pandemic's closure of Spain.
