He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Rafael Cardenas and Maria Ramirez; his wife Anabelia Ortiz Cardenas; his children, Patricia Paniagua (Abelardo Jr.), Mary Sears (Sherman), Alicia Hotchkiss (Robert), Romelia Mata, Rodolfo Cardenas Jr. (Maria), Rosa Linda Martinez (Fernando) and Eduardo Cardenas (Maria); and his brother Jose Cardenas. He was also cherished by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
