He was predeceased by: his parents, Elsie Margaret Kafer Self and David Newton Self; his sister Sylvia Marie Hankins; and his parents-in-law, Vernon and Ima Luttrell.
He is survived by: his wife Kay Luttrell Self of Malta, Texas; his daughters, Kristy (Anthony Kapp) and Kim (Jonathan Oudin); his grandchildren, Elijah, Naomi Oudin of Eagle River, Raymond and Elyse Kapp of Royse City, Texas; his sister Cynthia; his brother-in-law Rick Napps of Highland Village, Texas; his brother Dennis Self of Terrell, Texas; and his siblings-in-law, Randy and Connee Luttrell of Lake Village, Arkansas. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
