He was predeceased by: his parents, Prentiss Carl Kaufman and Willie Bell Elliott; his wife Elizabeth Ann Horn Kaufman; his sister Betty Jean Polk; and his daughter Donna Shametta.
He is survived by: his siblings, Peggy Ann Miller and Freddie Kaufman; his daughters, Angela Giddens Bowlinger, Alecca Rhyna Offer (Bill) and Regina Anderson (David); his former wife Ria Gibbs; and his grandchildren, James Giddens, Jr. (Tami), Brandon Lucero (Tiffany), Bo Offer (Nicole), Travis Offer (Teyan), Emillee Giddens, Elizabeth Beach (Preston), Brianna Bowlinger and Hannah Bowlinger. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
